WHY IS IT USED?
Relaxant Protein will relax the muscles (mainly around the eyes or the forehead) to soften or remove the wrinkles giving you a fresher, relaxed, rested and pleasant appearance. In some cases the muscles can be “frozen” so they don’t move, however this is not always desirable, as we want to reduce the wrinkles but keep you looking natural. This is why Dr Spano’s 8 years experience is necessary to tailor-make a treatment for you to achieve the best possible result for your face.
HOW DOES RELAXANT PROTEIN WORK?
Relaxant Protein relaxes muscle contractions, and after treatment the overlying skin becomes smoother and less wrinkled, and the ability to frown or crease the skin is dramatically reduced.
ARE RELAXANT PROTEIN TREATMENTS SAFE?
YES. Each year hundreds of thousands of patients receive Relaxant Protein treatments in over 70 countries around the world for a variety of conditions and in the last twelve years it has become the most popular treatments performed in aesthetics for improving the appearance of facial wrinkles. We do not treat clients who are pregnant or trying to become pregnant as the risks are unknown.
WHAT IS THE TREATMENT LIKE?
Relaxant Protein treatments are simple, fast and safe. Ten minutes is all it takes in your lunch break. Using a tiny needle a very small amount of clear Relaxant Protein is placed, very precisely, into selected muscles. Patients resume normal activities immediately with no discomfort. We use a strong numbing cream to reduce discomfort.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
Tiny pinprick marks or a small bruise occur occasionally but can be immediately covered with makeup. In rare cases, there can be a temporary heaviness of the eyelid, but this can be reversed with Albalon type eye drops should it occur. Patients with Myasthenia may not be treated. Extremely rarely temporary blurred vision has been reported but has not in our clinic to date. Your Relaxant Protein Specialist Dr Paul Spano will examine your needs and tailor a treatment for you.
WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT?
Relaxant Protein will give you a more youthful and pleasant appearance. The Relaxant Protein will reach a full effect by day 12 , so be patient . You will be able to smile, laugh and move the face normally except you will not be able to make wrinkles as much where treated. Relaxant Protein results can vary from patient to patient and time to time. The Doctor will suggest an appropriate dose for you, but if you wish, you can pay less or more to alter your results.
NOTE: TOP-UP OR TREATMENT ADJUSTMENTS OR FINE TUNING WILL INCUR A FEE DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH EXTRA PRODUCT IS USED.  YOUR QUOTE IS BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF PRODUCT USED, IF MORE PRODUCT IS USED FOR AN ADJUSTMENT THEN YOU WILL PAY FOR THE ADDITIONAL PRODUCT.
HOW LONG WILL RELAXANT PROTEIN LAST?
The effects usually last for 4 months around the eyes and 5-6 months in the forehead. Continued Relaxant Protein treatment will actually smooth out wrinkles that are deep, as the collagen is remodelled under the skin, giving long lasting results. Relaxant Protein is also used to prevent wrinkles from occurring in younger patients eg early 20’s. Deep wrinkles respond well to a Relaxant Protein / Restylane combination.

ARMPIT SWEATING
Placement of Relaxant Protein into the skin of the Armpit will reduce sweating by 70-90% and lasts many months. It takes ten minutes to do and is an easy way to control this problem.
*** PLEASE WAIT AT LEAST 12 DAYS BEFORE CONSIDERING ANY ADJUSTMENTS AS IT TAKES THAT LONG FOR THE TREATMENT TO MATURE ***
We usually don’t like to “freeze” an area, it is better to keep some movement as it looks more natural, but each person is treated to their individual needs.

FAQ - B) Dermal Filling Gel
HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
Dermal Filling Gel will last for over 1 year in fine lines, 2 years in acne scars, approx. 12 months in the lip borders and 3-5 months in the pink areas of the lip. The thicker version available lasts approx. 14-16 months in the lip borders, 8-10 months in "pink" part of the lips, 18-24 months in the deeper folds and over 2 years in acne scars.
Dermal Filling Gel injections must be administered only by, or under the supervision of, a nurse or doctor experienced and specifically trained in Dermal Filling Gel use. It is a simple procedure, done in the consulting rooms, and not usually requiring time off work. Dermal Filling Gel can be used to improve:
- acne scars
- wrinkles
- depressions or pockmarks in the skin due to injury or disease
- chickenpox marks
- unevenness in the skin after surgery or skin grafting
- sunken or depressed scars caused by injury
In addition, many people have been treated for:
- deep 'smile lines' which run from the side of the nose to the corners of the mouth
- crows feet' at the corner of the eyes
- 'frown lines' between the eyebrows
- 'smokers lines' which are vertical lines on the top lip
- 'marionette lines' at the corner of the mouth
- 'worry lines' which run across the forehead
- the definition of the lip border
- other facial lines
- deep neck lines
THE PROCEDURE
A very fine disposable sterile needle is used to inject Dermal Filling Gel. Treatment usually takes about 30 minutes. Lip treatments are almost painless due to a local anaesthetic block. If the treatment is going to cause pain or discomfort, your cosmetic therapist may choose to use a local anaesthetic injection or cream.
*** PLEASE ARRIVE 20 MINS EARLY TO ALLOW TIME FOR THE NUMBING CREAM TO TAKE EFFECT ***
Especially after your first treatment, the cosmetic therapist will want to see you again in two to three weeks to assess your results and possibly put the final touches on the treatment. For wrinkles, think of it as a two-part process, with the final touches being performed at the review appointment, often 20 percent more improvement can be gained at this time.
When you notice a line or defect coming back, you can arrange for another treatment. Or, you can choose to stop having treatment, and your skin will go back to its previous position. Treatment with Dermal Filling Gel will not stretch your skin out of its natural shape.
PRECAUTIONS
Dermal Filling Gel should not be used in or near sites of active skin disease or infection.
Do not expose the area treated to extreme heat (e.g. solarium or sunbathing) or extreme cold until the initial swelling and redness has resolved. Exercise on the day of treatment is not recommended
AFTER EFFECTS
After the injection of Dermal Filling Gel, some common injection-related reactions might occur. These reactions include:
1)Redness - 12-24 hrs
2) Puffiness - 12hrs, lips 12/36 hrs
3) Discolouration - fine and fair-skinned patients having fine lines treated, may see a greyish line through the skin at the implant site, especially if the skin is stretched
4) Bruising - uncommon, up to 4 days, coverable
5) Pimple/Small Blister -1/25 cases, transient. Additionally, temporary palpable lumpiness has been noted after the use of Dermal Filling Gel in some patients. Once daily massage of lumps will reduce their size. If a patient already gets cold sores, they may develop a case after lip injection, use Zovirax cream as directed.
Allergy Reactions thought to be of a hypersensitivity nature have been reported in about one in every 2000 patients. These have consisted of swelling and firmness at the implant site, sometimes with swelling in the surrounding tissues. Redness, Tenderness and rarely Acne-form papules or Blisters may also occur. The reactions have started either shortly after injection or after a delay of 2-4 weeks and have been described as mild to moderate and self-limiting, with an average duration of 2 weeks. Treatments are available for the adverse events.
Patients who have experienced this type of reaction should not be retreated with Dermal Filling Gel.
