At Skinovate in Melbourne we know that scars come in many shapes sizes and colours and their appearance depends on what part of the body and skin the scar is on. Multiple therapies are available for scar reduction and each is tailor-made for each individual's needs.
Generally, scars will be red or pink in colour initially, and then fade to a pale skin colour over 3-12 months. Sometimes scars will be more pigmented than your normal skin. Scars which are overly red or which have fine blood vessels running through them can be improved by the use of a Laser / IPL.
Pigmented or brown scars can often be lightened so they blend in more with the surrounding skin - this is done with custom-made creams and some light chemical peeling or Laser / IPL. Old pale scars (white patches) on any part of the body can be improved by bringing colour back into them with a delicate "needling" technique which is not painful.
Raised scars (or hard scars e.g. Keloid) can be flattened and softened with the use of silicone gel sheets or cheaper occlusive dressings - either alone or in association with small injections into the scars to dramatically improve them. This works especially well for Hypertrophic and Keloid scars. Fine acne scars can be improved with Micro Dermabrasion.
Depressed scars (e.g. pitted ACNE SCARS) can be improved with subcision, or filled with various dermal filling agents. These can be either resolvable (temporary) fillers or permanent. Often ACNE SCARS can be improved up to 80 percent.
NOTE: Skinovate in Melbourne now has a Fraxel Laser - the newest and best treatment for most types of scarring. |
